Set Up a Blog
Here are the basics of setting up your blog: Watch the video on blog basics:

Adding a Blog Page

  1. Click 'Add Page.'

  2. Select 'Blog' and click 'Select Page Type.'

  3. Enter a 'Menu Name' (text that shows in your navigation menu for your page), choose whether the page will show in your navigation menu, enter the web address ending you would like and click 'Add Page.'

  4. Next, enter your blog settings, otherwise you won't be able to create blog posts. Use the drop down options to select a format and style for your blog 'Post Title.' Then, put in your 'Time zone' and 'Default Comment Setting.' If you would like to be notified when there's a new post, enter your email address beside 'Notification Email.' Click 'Save'.

Creating a Blog Post

  1. On your Blog page, click 'Edit Page' -> 'Add New Post' on the left or the 'Add New Post' button.

  2. Enter a title for your post. Enter a URL which is the web address that shows for the page. For example, if you enter 'hello_kitty_bag_sale' in the box, the web address will be www.hellokittyhouse.com/hello_kitty_bag_sale.html. Enter your content.

Below that, choose your Comments setting. Comments allow visitors to your blog article to leave a remark about it. Note that to post a comment, our system will automatically require the visitor to pass our spam filter (i.e. a captcha shows which makes the person enter some text we show). Here's what each setting means:

    • Automatic Approval: A visitor's comment will show immediately.
    • Approval Required: A visitor's comment only shows after you approve it.
    • Disable Comments: No one may comment on this post or if there are already comments, no one may add new comments to the post.

At the bottom, choose either 'Draft' (doesn't show on your site, but saves a copy for you to edit later) or 'Publish On.' If you opt to publish, you then have to enter a date and time for the post to show on your site.

Save or publish your post by clicking either 'Save As Draft' or 'Publish' button. Examples below of both.

Viewing Your Blog

When your post shows on your site, it shows at the top of your blog page with older posts in order below it. Only the first approximately 150 words appear (excludes images and code) with a link to see the full article. Up to 10 posts show on your main blog page with a link to see more posts at the bottom.

If you click on the 'Read More' link, you then see the full article on it's own webpage like this:

Comments only show if you have opted to allow them on your blog article.

On the right side are the following links:

  1. RSS Feed - RSS is a method of compiling blog updates from several blogs into one place. An RSS reader is required and then your visitors can grab the feed from here.
  2. Blog Home - Links to your main blog page.
